Building a city fit for children means achieving a more livable community for all. With this conviction the city of Prato, in collaboration with UNICEF, has become an experimental laboratory, at national level, for the innovative nature of the projects and for those being planned. Among the most important initiatives is the institution of an "Observatory for Children’s Rights" with the task of mapping the different realities in the city of Prato which deal with children, creating a local network with the subjects that deal with childhood and creating training courses for operators at various levels.
The observatory is connected with the "UNICEF Point", opened in 2015 at URP Multiente, where citizens can find information about the program "Friendly City", propose a service to be mapped, suggest initiatives to be promoted, present ideas and suggestions to make the city fit for children. Among the promoted activities are “Baby pit stop” in public buildings and private exercises, places where mothers can breastfeed and stop to change the diapers. To make actions and projects more effective, is planned the establishment of "Participation groups of children and young people".
