September in Prato

In September Prato shows its best side

In September, the city of Prato shows its best side and qualities: love for tradition and for its history, the attitude to the contemporary and the desire to stay in the most beautiful squares of the town centre with all those who live, work and study here as well as with the many tourists who choose to visit it.
Around the historic celebrations of the 8th of September, for some years now, the festival, with its great variety of music, sports events, initiatives related to taste and flavours, events for children and teenagers, is a recurring appointment for all Prato citizens and not only for them.
Many are the appointments that animate the centre in this period, among which the festival of concerts and shows Settembre // Prato è Spettacolo organized by Fonderia Cultart in collaboration with the Municipality. The centerpiece of the initiative is the big stage in Piazza Duomo, which hosts every year concerts of great attraction, meant for different audiences, some artists of the 2020 edition are: Wolfmother and Willie Peyote.

As for the sport, the Parco della Liberazione e della Pace, the former Ippodromo, houses the Arena where is played the ancient tournament of the “Palla Grossa” where the four historic districts of the city challenge each other: Santo Stefano (Yellow), Santa Maria (Blue) Santa Trinita (Red) and San Marco (Green).
It is very similar to the Florentine costume football, from which it differs in a shorter field and a larger and heavier ball, from which comes the name of the game. In recent years it has been very successful attracting a large number of fans.
There are many other sports events including the widely followed Fluo Run, the amusing night run through the streets of the town centre.
