Prato Abetone is an amateur cycling race that for over thirty years, on a Sunday in July, has been drawing thousands of cycling enthusiasts and internationally renowned athletes.
The race, which starts in Prato's city centre, in Viale Piave, takes place along a tough but very picturesque route, through plains and mountain passes, and ends in the main square of the mountain village of Abetone, at an altitude of 1488 metres a.s.l., where every year a pasta party awaits all participants.
The traditional route is 74-km long, and there is also a 142-km Gran Fondo.
This year participants were able to choose among 4 different routes, three of which cycle-tourist ones.
This event combines tourism with sport through many related initiatives: local food and wine, exhibitions, points of interest and guided tours.
