The Half Marathon, this year in its 29th edition, takes place every year in the morning of Easter Monday and, according to tradition, it starts and ends in the city centre, in Viale Piave.
It is the most important running event in the Prato's busy sporting calendar, with the participation of thousands of athletes and enthusiasts.
It is a national competitive race of 21,097 km for male and female competitors which is part of the national FIDAL calendar.
The course is flat and takes place on paved roads that cross the city's main places and monuments. It is structured along the urban ring road and comes back to the starting point in the last spectacular 500 metres: a slightly downhill-uphill stretch of road that brings the participants to the doorway of the Emperor's Castle, a historical and architectural icon of the city.
The competition is open to everyone - athletes, enthusiasts, and families - and includes many collateral events that meet different needs:
Stracittadina pratese - 10-km amateur race at the runners’ own pace.
Walking - 3-km walk with the protagonists of the National March.
Isola Running – for those who want to run or walk with their four-legged friends.
Kids Fun Run – fun run about 1-km long, at the runners’ own pace, for children accompanied by their parents.
On the previous Saturday, the day before Easter, Half-Marathon Village opens with shows, food and entertainment in Piazza delle Carceri, to look forward together to the Maratonina event.
