Prato is in central Italy and this location makes it easily accessible by all means of transport.
By Car
Getting to Prato by car from any part of Italy is very simple. The city is crossed by the main Italian motorways: Milan-Naples Autostrada A1 (known also as Autostrada del Sole, the main artery connecting Italy from the north to the south) and the Florence - Pisa Autostrada A11 (known as "Firenze mare", it runs east-west in Tuscany and is one of the region's most important and busy roads).
By Train
Prato is served by two railway lines, Bologna-Florence and Florence-Lucca, and is therefore well connected with major Italian cities such as Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna, Venice and Naples.
Both lines pass through the Prato Centrale station. The Florence-Lucca line (which continues to Viareggio or Pisa) also stops at two other stations: Prato Porta al Serraglio (the closest to the historical centre) and Prato Borgonuovo.
By Bus
Prato is connected to Florence by bus; the service is managed by the CAP Autolinee company and runs every 15 minutes from 5,45 a.m. to 10,20 p.m. (direction Prato-Florence) and from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (direction Florence-Prato).
The bus starts from the centre of Prato, makes many stops, including one near the Centre for Contemporary Art and one near the "A.Vespucci" Airport, and continues to the centre of Florence, ending at the central station of Santa Maria Novella.
