Prato is a privileged point to discover the city surroundings

The city of Prato occupies an enviable position: it is set at the foot of the Calvana and Monferrato mountains and extends along the plain of the Bisenzio River, halfway between Pistoia and Florence.
This location makes it a favourite starting point for exploring its surroundings, which offer a great variety of experiences, from nature excursions to visits to historical-artistic sites.
Just a few minutes' drive from the centre of town are beautiful hilly and mountainous areas, and one can choose from among excursions of different difficulty: from itineraries in the Monferrato hills and the Calvana and Montalbano mountains to those in the High Bisenzio Valley, where one can visit the Cantagallo-Acquerino natural reserve.

In addition to nearby Pistoia (about 15 km) and Florence (about 20 km), bordering towns are also of considerable interest, such as Poggio a Caiano, site of the splendid Medici Villa "Ambra", Cantagallo and its picturesque Fortress of Cerbaia and Vaiano, with the San Salvatore Abbey.
