Piazza Mercatale

The area of this square was originally partly occupied by the gravel bed of the Bisenzio River, which was later diverted to the north, and as early as the mid-13th century it was already being used a place of exchanges and markets.
Today the square is particularly frequented by young people, who in the evening meet in its bars and restaurants.
The most important aspect of the development planned for Piazza del Mercatale is the completion of a new stone sidewalk on its south side, along the section stretching from Via Santa Margherita to Via S. Silvestro.
Work has already been completed between vicolo dei Gini and the area adjacent to the kiosk located near Via Garibaldi.
